Welcome to the website of Gaye (nee Blake) Gough

Welcome to the website of Gaye (nee Blake) Gough. Celebrant, Justice of the Peace, former winner of the title Wellington’s Model Of The Year, Newspaper Columnist, Advertising Representative,  country Farmer’s wife, (away in the back blocks!) Mother of four, enterer of competitions, Freelance Writer, then back to school as an Adult Student via University Extension courses. A celebrant, Justice of the Peace (Thanks to Mervyn Hancock, Lloyd Geering and others) followed by educational study at the Institute of Training in Social Services, and Te Wanunga Aotearoa where she gained a Certificate in Social Work.

Whew! Along the way she attended 21st Birthday and Engagement parties, then Weddings. Usually followed by Christenings.  Later these became 18th birthday parties, University Capping Ceremonies, followed (occasionally) by Commitment Ceremonies - as customs and rites of passage changed.

When Gaye became a JP she began to be asked to perform weddings – with the belief at the time that Justices of the Peace could legally perform this role. They can’t! Captains of a ship, the Mayor of a Town or ordained Ministers of Religion could – but a JP couldn’t. So Gaye applied to become a Civil Celebrant.  That’s what people who were legally performing Marriages in 1998 used to be called, before the advent of Civil Unions in 2005. Then, as now however, anyone at all who has the approval of both the Family and the Funeral Chapel is able to conduct a Funeral.

Gaye now professionally performs them all – along with a range of Celebrant Services.  Including:
